Basic Woodworking Tools You Need to Have

Whether setting up a professional woodworking shop or just a small space in your garage or basement for those weekend projects it’s important to have the correct equipment. Listed below are some of the most common tools to include. Start out with the basics and get comfortable using them before investing in tools you perhaps don’t need and won’t use.

  • Every home needs some essential hand tools. A good hammer, a flat and Phillips head screwdriver, a socket wrench set, a tape measure, a couple pairs of different sized pliers and a pack of nails and screws are all that’s required for the most elementary chores.

  • Consider investing in a good workbench and some clamps and vises along with a couple tubes of wood glue for more sophisticated projects or repairs.

  • When it comes to power tools start with a drill and a jigsaw. Most drills are sold separately with packages of different sized bits available. A jigsaw is a good all purpose saw for cutting wood, light metals and plastics, with different sized blades offered depending on what materials need to be cut.

  • If you plan on cutting a lot of straight lines a circular saw is a handy tool. Circular saws are sized depending on the diameter of the blade.
