Although “green design” has been a buzz word for the past few years, many people are likely to associate eco-friendly with expensive. But even big-box stores are making a foray into sustainable design, including Target, Ethan Allen, Crate & Barrel and La-Z-Boy.
“Green furniture styles are evolving and expanding too,” according to the Denver Post. “What was once only austere and designer-friendly is now giving way to more traditional and contemporary looks.”
Have a look at some examples below.
Ethan Allen's solid pine trestle table, $1,399, is made from responsibly harvested Appalachian pine and has a water-based finish.
Sustainable wood, recycled metal, and cushions made from a portion of plant-based materials go into this $1,579 chair. (C.R. Laine)
