KCWG Builds 22 Portable Libraries for Two Joplin Schools

Teaming up with Reading Reptile, the Kansas City Public Library and Hallmark Cards, members of the Kansas City Woodworkers’ Guild worked for months building 22 portable libraries for two elementary schools in Joplin, Kansas. Built on wheels and standing 42 inches tall, the mini libraries were designed in the shape of books complete with hinges so that the library even open and close like one!

Hallmark Card artists then painted the libraries to look like popular children’s books, and each library even came with 65 new books inside.  The students and teachers of Emerson Elementary and Irving Elementary in Joplin were thrilled!

We just loved this woodworking project! It was such a clever idea while benefiting such an important cause! This made our team here at Schutte Lumber very proud to be a sponsor of the Kansas City Woodworkers’ Guild. Well done woodworkers!
