Schutte Lumber Helped KCH&G Create an Outdoor Room to Raise Funds

Outdoor living is a favorite topic for the Kansas City Homes & Gardens Magazine. For the third year in a row, KCH&G organized a vignette at the Overland Park Arboretum & Botanical Gardens to benefit the Stems: A Garden Soiree fundraiser. With the community being a favorite topic for Schutte Lumber (as well as wood, of course), we were excited to once again participate in the now annual philanthropic event by donating naturally rich and durable cedar.

As part of the fundraising project, local builders constructed a beautiful pergola out of the Schutte Lumber cedar. Built on a grassy knoll of the Arboretum’s grounds, the earth-inspired outdoor room was built for a one-night event that raised hundreds of thousands of dollars to benefit local sites like the Arboretum and Deanna Rose Children’s Farmstead. While showcasing the latest in outdoor living design, the finished vignette also featured cedar as an ideal wood for an outdoor setting as it requires no maintenance and looks great natural or stained to keep its terra cotta color.
