Sealing Wood Decks for Winter

Sealing Wood Decks for WinterThe beautiful fall weather is officially here, making this the perfect time to complete some of those projects around the house. One of the best ways to preserve the life of the wood that was used to build your deck is to seal it for the winter season. Listed below are some simple step-by-step instructions for sealing your deck courtesy of eHow:

1. Before you begin the sealing process, you need to clean your deck. Give the wood a quick pressure washing using a mild 25 degree tip. This setting is important to remember as it is not as harsh on the wood and is less likely to cause it to erode.

2. Once you are finished with the pressure washing, scrub any areas that require further cleaning with oxygen bleach using a heavy duty scrub brush. Allow the bleach to sit on the spots for 30 minutes and then rinse it off.

3. Once the deck is completely dry, you are ready to apply the stain. Use a paint brush to apply the stain.

4. Use a garden sprayer to apply the seal to the deck, and hold it approximately 12 inches above the wood while moving it in a back and forth motion, eventually covering the entire surface of your deck.
