Confidence in New Home Construction Improved

The housing marketing is continuing to improve as builder confidence for single-family homes that have been newly built has risen four points on the Housing Market Index. This puts the builder confidence level at 49, only one point shy of the level considered good building conditions.

According to the chairman of the National Association of Home Builders, Kevin Kelly, the improvement of homebuilder confidence shows an overall confidence in the home building industry. He was, however, quick to point out that homebuilders are still facing several challenges, including limited labor availability.

Even though consumers are still hesitant to make home purchases until they see clear signs of a full economic recovery, homebuilders are cautiously adding to the home inventory in preparation. The Housing Market Index is created through the use of  a survey that gauges the perceptions of home builders regarding  home sales and sales expectations over the next six month period. These ratings include good, fair or poor. They are also asked to rate the traffic of potential homebuyers.
