Survey Shows Demand for Green Building Materials Increasing

Homeowners and trade professionals are asking for environmentally “green” materials, according to Woodworking Network. 69% of customers and 68% of building professionals told Krantz’s Green Survey that using green building products is important. This number is higher than five years ago and it looks like it will be even higher in the future.

Over the years, many non-profit organizations committed to environmentally responsible building have grown. The U.S. Green Building Council developed the LEED green building program, which certifies buildings based on building materials and methods. The Greenguard Environmental Institute certifies products based on their contribution to indoor air quality. GreenSpec also certifies products based on strict environmental performance criteria. Product manufacturers have come on board too. Benjamin Moore Paints has a line of no-VOC products, as does Freshaire Choice.
